Tamfu Arison wins Lorenzo Natali Media Prize award

Cameroonian born ace TV broadcaster, Tamfu Arison is the Grand Prize winner of the Lorenzo Natali Media Prize award. the former Equinox TV prolific newscaster cum editor who now writes for Cameroon Daily Journal, an online publication was handed the prestigious award in Brussels,Belgium last Thursday January 14 at a colourful event. Tamfu Arison’s award-winning story was headlined “Africa’s billions might be buried forever’ and published in Cameroon Daily Journal. The story it should be noted exposed how the use of renewable energies is improving lives in rural communities in Africa.
“I am glad to inform you all that I am the overall winner of the European Union Lorenzo Natali Media Awards 2015. I have just been awarded the prize in Brussels,Belgium. I am so happy to be among the nine winners and to have met these outstanding fellow journalists from all over the world .emerging the overall winner from the five continents of the world is a great honour for me and my country” wrote Tamfu on his official facebook page Thursday.
To recall that , Tamfu Arison who is a university of Buea graduate with a degree in journalism and mass communication was in October last year Silver winner of the  CNN Multi Choice African Journalist of the Year Awards 2015 in Environmental Journalism, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya. Later In December 2015, the award-winning multitalented journalist won the United Nations Correspondents Association Awards (UNCA Awards 2015) in New York. Other laureates for the award included internationally acclaimed journalist, Christiane Amanpour of CNN.
Meantime other winners of the Lorenzo Natali Media Prize award  in the professional and amateur categories include Nathalie Bertrams (Africa-Amateur Category), Jacopo Ottaviani (Arab world and Middle East – Professional category), Htet Khung Linn (Asia and the Pacific – Professional category), Ankita Anand (Asia and the Pacific – Amateur category), Patrick Akalomba (Europe – Professional category), Ingrid Gercama (Europe, Amateur category), Humberto Padgett León (Latin America and the Caribbean – Professional category) and Daniela Aguilar de la Torre (Latin America and the Caribbean – Amateur category).
The Lorenzo Natali Media Prize 2015 edition it should be noted took place in the context of the 2015 European Year for Development, which provided an unparalleled opportunity for the development community to showcase its commitment to eradicating poverty worldwide and to inspire more people to get engaged and involved in development. As such, the 2015 edition awarded media articles, broadcasts or blogs that stand out for their focus on development and poverty eradication.
Journalists were invited to submit their work, whether be it online, print, radio, TV, or blog posts. Amateur and professional awards are given across five award categories (based on the media outlet’s location): Africa, the Arab World and the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
An independent jury chaired by Olivier Basille (Reporters without Borders, Belgium) with members representing all five category regions and with substantial experience in the field of communication and development, were responsible for selecting the winners. Jury members included Richard Jones (Devex), Caroline Giraud (Global Forum for Media Development), Eric Chinje (African Media Initiative), Frank la Rue (Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Europe) and Jefry M Tupas (newsdesk.ph, winner of the EU Peace Journalism Award).
The winning journalists received prizes of €5,000 and trophies during the Lorenzo Natali Media Prize Award Ceremony held in the Bibliothèque Solvay in Brussels (Belgium) on 14 January 2016.The European Commission worked closely with regional partners to organise the Prize.
